Purple Heart Pups
Purple Heart Pups is a fundraiser established by Merrick Lions Club to help disabled veterans lead successful and independent lives by raising the money needed to provide them with access to service dogs and other supportive programs.
The Cause
The freedoms we enjoy today come at a price. That cost has been paid by our veterans, often with traumatic brain injury or loss of limbs or sight. The Purple Heart Pups, a subsidiary of the Merrick Lions Club Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization to which all donations are fully tax deductible, is dedicated to raising funds to help provide our injured veterans with services they need to help them lead full, productive lives.
Donations will benefit two admirable veteran organizations: America’s VetDogs, which provides trained guide and service dogs for disabled and visually impaired veterans; and the National Amputation Foundation, comprised totally of combat and service connected amputees, who mentor and assist amputee soldiers as they readjust to society.
Veterans have done so much for us and we would like to show our gratitude for their sacrifice.
The Event

Purple Heart Pups is hosting a 3k walk followed by a family festival on October 3, 2010 at Four Towns Firefighters Training Center in Merrick, NY.
We plan to have a walk, followed by a family festival with games, food, children’s activities, entertainment, arts and crafts. Opportunities will be available for vendors to make sales and non-profit organizations to raise funds with booths for children's crafts, games and activities. It promises to be a wonderful day for all!

Purple Heart Pups was created over the summer of 2009 as a special fundraising effort. Established by the Merrick Lions Club Foundation, the effort seeks to aid disabled and amputee veterans by providing financial support to America's VetDogs and the National Amputee Foundation.
